Deciding XM or Sirius ? Here's a review.

I agree with your review.

I have BOTH services and ended up canceling XM. Sirius has a far better
selection of music.
The only station I really listened to on XM was Ethel, on Sirius they
have about 5 Ethels!

I read in the past about Sirius sound quality not being as good as XM,
well all I have to say is no way, Sirius has better sound than my XM ,
its crisp and clean. XM always sounded muffled.

I am so glad I tried out Sirius, it won me over with quality and great
music selection.

I think it's the better choice of the two. I've had XM for about
four weeks, and the AM/FM radio is almost never used now, except
that I've connected the XM unit to its auxiliary so as to feed XM
into a radio in the kitchen so as not to miss anything!
I'd recommend XM to anyone wondering about going in for satellite
radio. (No, I have no connection with them: just a customer).

That would turn me against Sirius.

With a limited number of music channels, it seems like a bad choice to waste
5 of them on very similar genres. Sinking 10% of your music channels in one
genre is wrong.

One of the great strengths I see / want in satellite radio is a wide choice
of genres.

Hannity isn't an XM product. The show is owned by ABC and is just
carried by XM. Same with Truckin' Bozo (Clear Channel). Both can be
heard on terrestrial radio.

voices. Phil has even admitted this ON THE AIR many times.The "Callers" are
VERY real....frightening real, some are very stupid.
All the voices are done by mouth and the use of a telephone mouthpiece. No
synthesizer is used.
The TRUELY amazing part is the dumb-shits that fall for this act. Most of
them would rank as true "Winners/Dolts/Dimwits" or just plain stupid. Some
of the responses are just funny as shit.

Callers often include a righteous policeman whenever the "guest" is
advocating something shady. I used to think the cops had a "sixth
sense" about perps -- maybe not. BTW, I never heard a woman

Had no idea it was a common fact.
I listened to Hendrie a total of 2 nights for about 15 minutes, and as
I've done studio work in radio, I'm sensitive to voicing and phrasing and
could tell right away what was up. Have a different perspective now
that you've (albeit hot-headedly) told me... Interesting...

As you can imagine from 30 minutes in the car, I thought I simply
"discovered it" and thought, "Just another jackass on the radio...";
OTOH, if that's his entire shtick, I can't be too far from right. Anyway,
try decaf next time.

I don't think people who are tricked into deceit are "stupid", anymore
than I fault a spouse who's other half runs around on them. Deceit IS the
entire point of the show--so how can you blame people for falling into it?

Based on just what I've heard I agree Sirius blows. They use 'PAC' which
the standards committee rejected for IBOC because it is substandard for the
lower bitrates Sirius uses. Doesn't take a genius to take those facts and
spell Sirius as DOA.

Oh, and I've heard both and XM does sound better.

Sirius sounds cleaner.

I chose Sirius because it sounds less compressed to my ears.

I think in reading the comments to date on this subject, it's quite
apparent that it's all in the mind (or ears?) or the beholder. To my
ears (which have admittedly been assaulted by over 35 years of shortwave
listening), the audio quality and signal reliability of each service is
quite similar. The decision for me to go with Sirius rested on the non-
commercial and proprietary nature of their music channels and the
presence of more public radio options (ie: BBC, WRN, two NPR, one PRI and
C-SPAN) including access to more international broadcasters (BBC and
WRN). The $3 differential in monthly charges was no factor and in my
judgement the allocation of channels to differing aspects of the musical
spectrum was a wash between the two.

Quite frankly, I think--especially in light of the terrible state of AM
and FM radio--a listener would be pleased regardless of which service
were chosen. But, as they say, your mileage may vary.

Thank you. You're one of the few people who lives in a world of color
and shades of grey. Neither service is absolutely better than the
other. I'd love to have a receiver that received both.

What we're forgetting is the incredible accomplishments of the people
who created these services. I'm very fortunate in knowing many of them
as friends. Just the fact that they were able to design, fund and
construct them is a testiment to their willingness to go very far out
on a limb and take risks.

My hat is off to them and I'm very happy to call them friends. Many of
the shows I've been involved with are now on one or both services. I
hope they both succeed. They deserve it.

doesn't sound like there are very many talk/news stations on Sirius. Do you
